A Closer Look at Kickback Mud Flaps

Thursday, November 4, 2021

First, the name itself— “kickback mud flaps”—sounds really cool, doesn’t it? The flaps actually do add a stylish look to a vehicle while also being protective and practical—and, in some locations, required by law.

One of the earliest versions of a mud flap was invented by a man named Oscar Glenn March, Sr., a man who liked to tinker but didn’t patent what he created.

A highly decorated veteran who served in World War II, March recognized how the wheels of big rigs would kick up rocks, debris, mud and more, which in turn damaged cargo and the vehicles—and sometimes led to injuries.

He, therefore, created a protective flap that hung behind a vehicle’s wheel to help solve that problem.

Fast-forwarding until today, this early version of a mud flap won’t provide the degree of protection needed by lifted trucks with those massively impressive tires. For that, you need kick back mud flaps for sale by Enthuze!

Benefits and Uses of Lifted Trucks

Lifted trucks provide more ground clearance for a vehicle because the body, frame, and so forth are higher up—and their raised appearance alone appeals to some people.

Practically speaking, this clearance can be highly advantageous for off-road driving while also reducing the likelihood of vehicle damage from obstacles on the ground.

The raised suspension allows for greater traction and the larger tires used on lifted trucks permit you to experience a less rough ride, off-road. In short, kick back mud flaps are a key element in protecting your vehicle from the natural elements encountered on the ride.

Ultra-Durable Enthuze Options

Features and materials making Enthuze mud flaps especially strong include the following:

  • Hefty stainless steel
  • Burly 14-gauge anchor weights for the perfect balance of durability and weight
  • AntiSpray steel brackets that protect your tires

Enthuze products are also much thicker and sturdier than Husky Liners.

Lifted trucks are, more or less by definition, customized vehicles—so it just makes sense that their drivers would want customized options in their aftermarket mud flaps. With the Enthuze brand, we offer choices in finishes—mirrored or matte black—and more.

You can choose from six Enthuze sets, each of them coming in a four-pack with stainless mounting: two for the front and two for the rear of the vehicle. Each comes with a three-year warranty that includes the powder coat.

Mud Flap Laws

In the province of Alberta, its “Vehicle Equipment Regulations” includes the following statement: “a motor vehicle or trailer must have, as part of its body, a fender or a mudguard that covers the width of each tire.”

Saskatchewan Government Insurance policies also require fenders, mud flaps, or a type of body overhang for any vehicles that meet certain requirements. These must reduce the amount of gravel, snow, debris and so forth that can be projected as the tires go over them.

So, anyone who lives in Canada (or plans to visit) should check their local regulations to ensure compliance.
