What Is a Leveling Kit?

Leveling kits are a nice middle ground that gives you extra clearance by settling your truck into a balanced stance instead of the stock raked stance. A leveled stance also allows you to install larger tires or a snowplow.

What Does A Leveling Kit Do?

The purpose of a leveling kit is to raise the front end of a truck so that it matches the stock height of the rear end, which ultimately gives you more ground clearance. Most completely stock trucks have a raked stance where the front is lower than the back by about two inches.

The different types of leveling kits work a bit differently. For example, strut extension kits are used on vehicles that have coilover struts on the front suspension. This description fits most midsize trucks and SUVs. In this type of kit, the spacers are placed at the bottom or top of the stock strut, which raises the suspension.

Torsion leveling kits are used on trucks that have torsion bar suspensions. These leveling kits replace the stock torsion bar keys to lift them on one side or the other.
